Beef skin stewed with cinnamon, red apple, anise

I bought cowhide a few days ago. I haven’t tried it yet, so I don’t know if it’s delicious, so today I cook beef skin stewed with cinnamon , red apple, anise, and young bitter melon to try.  But when considering the fact that eating the animal skin and organs contributes to reducing waste for the earth, so buy it and try it without expecting it to be delicious! This dish is so tasty and  just takes a little while!

Material beef skin stewed with cinnamon:

  1. 500 gram of beef skin
  2. 100 gram of red apple
  3. 1 teaspoon pink salt
  4. 1 tablespoon Bien Hoa organic brown sugar
  5. 1 tablespoon black soy sauce for pho
  6. 2 cinnamon sticks (about 20cm long each)
  7. 5 star anises
  8. 500g Baby Bitter Melon (optional)

Steps cook beef skin stewed with cinnamon, red apple, anise

Put all ingredients in a pot, covered with water. Close the lid of the pot, turn on medium heat, until boiling, then switch to low heat to simmer the skin for 3 hours. After 1 hour of stewing, take out all the red apples, anise, and cinnamon, and stew the beef skin for another 2 hours.

The red apple, cinnamon bark and star anise have just been taken out, then I add water, squeeze it. Thí liquid can be used to water the tree. While stewing, remember to check, if the water is running out but the skin is still not as soft as you want, add more water!

While waiting for the skin to soften, make a red milk salt dipping sauce, or if you know how to make soy sauce, it’s also very suitable for eating together!

After 3 hours, use chopsticks to check the skin. If the tip of the chopsticks penetrates easily, it’s done! Take the skin out  and cut into bite-sized pieces. Serve with dipping sauce.This dish can be enjoyed with baby bitter melon, they will enhance the crispiness and deliciousness of the dish!
